19. How painful is bunion surgery?
Pain varies, but it is commonly most noticeable as local or regional anaesthesia wears off during the first few days. Medication, elevation, protected activity and following the plan before pain escalates usually improve control. Swelling generally lasts much longer than acute pain.
20. Will I need a general anaesthetic?
That depends on the procedure, setting, anaesthetist and patient factors. General anaesthesia, sedation and regional or local techniques may be combined in different ways. The anaesthetic plan should be individualised.
21. Is bunion surgery day surgery?
