What is ultrasound-guided hydrodissection for Morton’s neuroma?
Short answer: Hydrodissection uses ultrasound-guided fluid placement around the interdigital nerve to separate it from adjacent tissue planes and reduce mechanical tethering or compression.
The procedure is performed through a needle rather than an incision. Ultrasound visualises the neuroma, bursa, ligament and spread of fluid. The solution and volume are selected for the individual clinical plan.
Hydrodissection aims to improve the nerve’s local environment and mobility. It does not excise the neuroma or promise permanent reversal of fibrosis.
