Can pads, splints or orthotics straighten a hammertoe?
Short answer: These measures can reduce pressure and improve comfort, especially when the toe remains flexible, but they do not permanently correct a rigid structural deformity.
Silicone sleeves, toe props, crest pads or carefully placed felt can protect a corn or support a toe. Taping or splinting may temporarily improve position. Devices must fit without crowding the shoe or impairing circulation.
Orthoses may redistribute pressure beneath the forefoot and address contributing mechanics. They are selected for symptoms and foot function rather than prescribed automatically for every bent toe.
